Jayshree Gadkar is one of the renowned actresses in the entertainment Industry. The actress became famous after playing Koshalya in Ramanand Sagar's TV. Jayshree ruled the hearts of the audience for five decades with her acting. Jayashree was born on 21 March 1942 in a simple Konkani family in Sadashivgarh village of Karwar district, Karnataka. She came to be known as Meena, later Jaya and then Jayashree. When she was five years old, her family shifted to Mumbai and she did her further studies in Mumbai. She had a special inclination in the field of arts because of her love for dancing and singing since her childhood.

She used to watch movies secretly in her childhood. She started learning dance and singing at an early age. She started her acting career at the age of 13 Jayshree started working as a child artist in Marathi films. Her first film was 'Tamasha'. After this, in the year 1955, in V. Shantaram's film 'Jhanak Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baaje'. Jayashree’s first dance performance was at a function in Pune on the occasion of Russian leader Khrushchev's visit to India.

During her performance, Ram Deotale, a photographer from Pune took photographs of Jayshree Gadkar and put them in her studio. These pictures were seen by Dinkar Patil and she got a chance to dance in the film 'Disat Tasan Nasat'. Jayashree Gadkar married famous actor Bal Dhuri in the year 1975. The couple starred together in the film Mumbai to Mauritius. They together worked in the famous serial 'Ramayana'. The character of Dasaratha was played by her real life husband Bal Dhuri and Jayshree Gadkar played the role of Koshalya.
