Chennai: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has strongly opposed the Sethusamudram waterway project spread across India and Sri Lanka. Tamil Nadu BJP unit chief Annamalai has said that this will only benefit the shipping companies of some DMK leaders. Annamalai has made several tweets attacking CM MK Stalin and opposing the Sethusamudram project. Along with this, some Hindu sadhus have expressed concern over the waterway project, saying that it will harm Ram Setu.

Annamalai wrote in tweeting that, 'BJP had organized a press conference to clarify the people of Tamil Nadu. The BJP has pointed out how the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu misled the assembly on this matter and lied regarding the Sethusamudram project.' Annamalai wrote in his tweet, 'BJP clearly says that we will not allow Ram Setu to be broken for this project.' He also said that the team formed by PM Narendra Modi to study the project is yet to submit its report on Ram Setu.

Attacking CM Stalin, he said that the advice of a Tsunami expert has been ignored. Annamalai said, 'The CM of Tamil Nadu also ignored the advice of Tsunami expert Professor S. Murthy, who had said that breaking Ram Setu could cause a tsunami.'

Congress also wanted to break Ram Setu:

The Manmohan Singh government of Congress also tried to break the Ram Setu by forming a company called Setusamudram Corporation Limited. At that time too, the BJP strongly opposed it and it was stopped after the matter reached the Supreme Court. However, Congress had given an affidavit in the Supreme Court calling Lord Shri Ram as imaginary. At that time Kapil Sibal was the lawyer of the Congress government.

Ram Setu is not natural, it is man-made:

After this, the eyes of scientists around the world were designated on Ram Setu and research started on it. According to a report, the US science channel has claimed with facts that Ram Setu - located between India and Sri Lanka - is not natural but man-made. It was built by human beings. Scientists in the US have found evidence that the stones of Ram Setu are about 7000 years old.
