VISAKHAPATNAM: Tamil Nadu on Saturday become the first team to march into the semi-final of the 2016-17 Ranji Trophy after they crushed a full-strength Karnataka team by seven wickets inside two days here at Visakhapatnam.

On the second day of match, as many 19 wickets were fallen and three innings unfolded.

In the morning session Tamil Nadu resuming the day at 111/4 in their first innings, were bowled out for 152, handing 64 runs crucial lead to the batting. Karnataka in their second innings were bowled out for 150 with KL Rahul scoring 77 and Karun Nair battling abdominal pain scored 12 batting at No 8. Tamil Nadu seamer K Vignesh shined on a green Vizag track with impressive figures of 12-1-43-4.

Chasing 87 runs to win, Tamil Nadu lost three wickets inside 10 overs, but Dinesh Karthik playing his 100th Ranji tie made a punchy 41 not out off 30 balls to steer his team to safety.

Earlier, put into bat first, Karnataka first innings were bundled out at 88 with middle over batsman Manish Pandey scored highest 28. For Tamil Nadu A Aswin Crist scalped six wickets conceding 31 runs in his 13.1 overs. Aswin adjudged player of the match for his seven wickets in the match.

Saturday’s win was Tamil Nadu's first outright victory over Karnataka in the Ranji Trophy since 2003-04.
