New Delhi: The water quality of the River Ganga, based on the religious beliefs of Bharat, is improving rapidly. From Uttarakhand to Bihar, the Ganga has been cleaned. According to the data, the quality of water of river Ganga in Bihar and Uttarakhand is showing improvement and now with the reduction in biological oxygen demand (BOD), its water has become fit for bathing here. It is clear that the health of the river is improving. Bod is an important standard for determining the quality of water. It means the consumption of oxygen by biological animals.

According to the data, the water of the Ganga was found to be compatible with the bathing standard, which, among other facts, occurs when three milligrams of BOD in a litre of water is demanded. The data compares the water quality of the Ganga to that of 2015 and 2021. According to which, the BOD level in the water of the Ganga in the part of Uttarakhand (from Haridwar to Sultanpur) and Bihar (from Buxar to Bhagalpur) was 3 mg per litre which falls in the category of unpolluted.

Ashok Kumar, director-general of the National Mission for Clean Ganga, has informed that two other routes of river Ganga, between Kannauj to Varanasi in UP and Triveni to Diamond Harbour in West Bengal, the pollution level remained in category five, which is the lowest. BOD levels in this category range from 3 to 6 mg per liter. According to the data, the quality of Gangajal has improved in 2021 as compared to 2015, as the BOD level in Bihar was 7.8 to 27 mg per litre (second category), while in UP the same level was in the third category i.e. 3.8 to 16.9 mg per litre.
