TEHRAN: The Iranian Supreme Court has accepted an appeal against rapper Saman Seydi Yassin's death sentence, while upholding the same decision against another protester, the judiciary announced on Saturday.

During the anti-government protests, Yasin, a Kurd who raps about inequality, oppression and unemployment, was accused of attempting to kill security personnel, setting rubbish bins on fire and firing three times in the air . He denied these allegations.

Last week, Yasin's mother pleaded for help in a video to save her son. In a video shared on social media, he asked, "Where in the world have you seen a loved one's life being taken for a dustbin?"

The judiciary's Mizan news agency later issued a statement claiming that only Yasin's appeal had been accepted, contrary to the court's initial claim that it had accepted the appeals of Yasin and another protester.

The agency reported that the Supreme Court of Iran's Public Relations Department changed its report to write, "The appeal of Mohammad Kubdloo has not been accepted. The Supreme Court has accepted the appeal of Saman Sayyedi."

In its original statement, it cited weaknesses in the investigation as the reason for the decision and said the case has been sent back to the court for a retrial.

During the protests, Kabadlu is accused of running down a police officer and injuring five other people with his car.
