Beirut: Two soldiers were killed and three others were injured in an explosion in northern Iraq, according to Iraqi state news.

A day earlier, an explosive device detonated in Makhmour district while soldiers were inside an army vehicle, according to the official Iraqi news agency.

No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack. This was only the latest of several recent examples of a similar nature.

Eight people were killed and three wounded on Monday when a gunman attacked the village of Albu Bali, formerly controlled by the Islamic State extremist group, northwest of Fallujah.
