AHMEDABAD: A church is being built in a village in Kaprada taluka of Valsad district of Gujarat, where not a single Christian lives according to official records. Not only this, the church is being constructed bypassing the decision of the panchayat. The local people, including the Sarpanch, have complained in this regard to the collector's office, demanding strict action against those who are building churches illegally.

According to the local people, there is not a single Christian living in Shahuda village under Kaprada taluka. Even in the village office, no one is registered as a Christian. Despite this, the church is being built in violation of the gram panchayat's decision. According to the complaint, Chanderbhai Chowdhary, working in the Forest Department, is behind this. He claims to be a Christian. However, even Chanderbhai has not registered himself as a Christian in the official papers. Villagers say that Chandarbhai is getting the church constructed even after not having the permission of the panchayat. Other villagers are opposing it. He says that if the administration does not take proper action in time, then some untoward incidents can also happen. The administration will be responsible for this situation.

Local residents say that attempts are made to convert the less educated people of the area by luring them. Various kinds of inducements are being given to the poor to convert to Christianity. A conspiracy is going on to corrupt the path by telling them wrong and derogatory things about Hindu Gods and Goddesses. Villagers say that on the basis of these temptations, churches are being built in many villages. Villagers allege that most of the churches have been built illegally on government and forest department lands.

Local residents have also raised concerns about the funding for the construction of such a church. According to local sources, a mass conversion took place in Shahuda village in July this year. In which 90 people from 20 families were converted to Christianity. It has been learned that the permission of the administration was not even taken for this conversion. After this incident, a written complaint was also given to the PSI of Kaprada on behalf of the Gram Panchayat. Villagers say that no action has been taken in this matter so far.

It may be mentioned that earlier also the news of a church being built in place of an ancient Hindu temple in Songadh village under the Tapi district had come to the fore. On the occasion of Navratri, when the Hindus reached the ancient temple to worship, a crowd of Christians also reached there and created a ruckus. Not only this, they prevented Hindus from going to the hill as well. According to the information, local Christians had built a church at that place by demolishing the ancient Hindu temple. He named that church as Mariam Mata's Temple. After the police reached the spot, the Hindus were able to worship.
