Rare statue of 'Natraj' will come to India today, stolen from Rajasthan 22 years ago

Jaipur: The stolen Natesh Shiva in February 1998 from Chittorgarh district of Rajasthan, that is, the statue of Natraj is going to come back to India. The statue was recovered from London in 2005 after it was stolen from the Ghateshwar temple. The statue of Natesh Shiva is returning to India on Thursday (30 July). This statue is of the 9th century, which will be received by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) on Thursday.

The officials have informed the media that in the year 2003, the British Authority was informed that the statue was stolen and taken to Britain. After which he talked to a private idol collector. He voluntarily gave this statue to the Indian High Commission in the year 2005. Since then this statue has been shown prominently inside India House. In the year 2017, the expert team of ASI confirmed that this is the same statue which was stolen from Ghateshwar temple in Baroli village.

Recently recovered items by India include a 17th-century bronze statue of Navneet Krishna and a second-century limestone carved pillar, which was returned by the US embassy on August 15, 2019. Additionally, a 12th-century bronze statue of Buddha and a Brahma-Brahmani statue, stolen from Scotland's World Heritage Site, Rani's Vav, by Scotland Yard on August 15, 2018, that too was returned to ASI in 2017.
