Lucknow: Rashid, accused in the murder of relatives of Team India's veteran cricketer Suresh Raina, has had an encounter with the Uttar Pradesh Police in Muzaffarnagar district. Rashid was killed in this encounter. The police had placed a reward of Rs 50,000 on him. One policeman has also been injured in the encounter and is undergoing treatment. Rashid had more than a dozen criminal cases registered against him. In these cases, FIRs like robbery, murder, and attempted murder were also included. The encounter took place on Saturday (April 1).

Muzaffarnagar district SSP has told that the police station in Shahpur and the Special Operation Group (SOG) of the district had received information about the presence of Bawariya gang members in the area through an informer. The police had also received input from the members of this gang to carry out the conspiracy of some major incidents, along with reiki of the area. With this information, the police team got active. Apart from the informer, the police team also collected information from other locals and jointly started searching the area.
The SSP of Muzaffarnagar said that the process, which started in the morning, lasted for more than half a day. During this, the police saw a bike coming. There were two suspicious riders on the bike, who were signalled by the police to stop. Seeing the police, both bike riders started firing and started running towards the fields on the side of the road. After some distance, both suspects hid in the sugarcane field, which was surrounded by the police. Here, the police asked the suspects to surrender, but they kept on firing.
According to the SSP, the SHO of Shahpur was injured in the firing by the accused. Eventually, the police also retaliated. An accused was injured by the police bullet and taken to the hospital. After some time, the injured accused died. At the same time, during the encounter, the second suspect managed to escape; police are on the lookout for him. On ascertaining the identity of the deceased accused, he was identified as Rashid alias Sipiah alias Chalta-Phirta.
Stating that Rashid was involved in many crimes like robbery, murder, and dacoity, the SSP said that the most famous case was the murder of cricketer Suresh Raina's aunt, uncle, and another relative. Police are now checking Rashid's criminal record from nearby districts as well. The police say that further action will be taken after gathering all the information. At the same time, the SSP informed the station in-charge, Shahpur, who was injured in the encounter, that he was out of danger and that he would be treated in the hospital. Police have recovered arms and bullets from the encounter site.
