Dominica: What an incredible comeback for Ravichandran Ashwin! The experienced bowler, who has taken the most wickets for India in the World Test Championship, was benched from the WTC final against Australia at The Oval exactly one month prior.
He recovered from the low, though, and put up an impressive performance over the course of the first three days of the Test match against the West Indies at Windsor Park in Roseau, Dominica. He finished with a record-breaking 12-wicket haul that enabled the visitors to thrash the hosts to an innings and 141 runs victory in just three days.
His 33rd five-wicket haul in the first innings helped him surpass England veteran James Anderson and become the bowler with the most wickets in the format. He took five wickets for 60 runs, making him the bowler with the most wickets in the format overall. He improved his performance in the second innings, picking up seven wickets as India held the West Indies to just 130 runs.

Ashwin now has 34 five-wicket hauls in Test matches, matching Rangana Herath's record. He is currently seventh overall and one behind the legendary Anil Kumble (35) in this category. With two fifers, Ashwin overtook Harbhajan Singh as the Indian bowler with the most such stats in the competition, and he now shares the top spot with the legendary Malcolm Marshall.
He picked up five wickets in each innings in the Test match for the sixth time in his career, tying Sydney Barnes' record and placing him third all-time behind Muttiah Muralitharan (11) and Herath (8). However, Ashwin is the first Indian bowler to ever accomplish this in a Test in the West Indies.
The ten-wicket haul in the Test match, is Ashwin's eighth in his storied career, putting him on par with Kumble and joint-fifth overall. The fifer in the second innings also meant a ten-wicket haul in the Test match.
In the list of most five-wicket hauls in a successful cause, Ashwin also surpassed the late Australian great Shane Warne. Ashwin currently trails Muralitharan by just 28 of these times (out of 41).

Overall, Ashwin finished with a bowling record of 12 for 131, which is now the best match total in an away Test for Ashwin, the best by an Indian bowler in a Test in the West Indies, and the best spinner ever.
Death, taxes, and Ashwin-Jadeja doing it all by himself on a twisting course for India. 17 of the 20 wickets that the West Indies lost in the three days were taken by the Indian spin combination.
"The results speak for themselves, they have been doing it for a while. There isn't much to tell them, it is about giving them the freedom to express. The experience these guys have on pitches like this is always a luxury. Both Ash and Jadeja were superb, specially Ashwin for coming out and bowling this way was class," Rohit Sharma, India captain, said in the post-match presentation.
