New Delhi: At least 38 medical colleges across the country have been de-accredited. This decision has been taken by the National Medical Commission (NMC). The NMC has issued notices against 100 medical colleges asking them to rectify the deficiencies. These include issues ranging from employees not registering their presence on the biometric system to the security arrangements of the college.

According to the report, a strict decision has been taken by the NMC to overcome the shortage of staff and doctors in medical colleges. The NMC has scrapped the recognition of 38 colleges. The NMC has taken this decision in view of the negligence of the employees and disturbances in the security system. An official of the National Medical Commission (NMC) has said that the numbers against the accreditation of medical colleges will keep changing. More hearings and appeals will be made in the next two months. The counselling for the current MBBS batch is expected to begin from July. NEET was conducted in the first week of May.

The NMC official said that if a college is unable to address the shortcomings, it will only affect their intake for the current year. Students already enrolled will not be affected. Chennai: Stanley Medical College, one of the oldest government medical institutions in Tamil Nadu's capital Chennai, and some other medical colleges in the state have lost accreditation. 

An official has pointed out that colleges whose recognition has been cancelled or notices have been sent had biometric attendance systems. Employees did not start registering attendance every day after the Corona epidemic. According to media reports, notices have been sent to several colleges in Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Assam, Punjab, Andhra Pradesh, Puducherry and West Bengal.
