The city of Mathura, in Uttar Pradesh, the nucleus of Brajabhumi, is located 140 km south-east of Delhi and 60 km north-west of Agra. Famed for being the birthplace of the much-loved Hindu god Krishna, Mathura is one of Hinduism's seven sacred cities.

Today, the town is dotted with a large number of temples including the Krishna Janbhoomi Temple that is thronged by a large number of devotees all through the year. However, Janmashtami is one festival during which this small town becomes overcrowded yet full of colours.

How to reach there?

1. By Air: The nearest international airport to Mathura is located in Delhi, at a distance of 147 km while the closest domestic airport is Kheria airport, Agra, located at a distance of 49 km. Taxis are available to the holy city from both these airports.

2. By railways:Mathura railway junction connects the city to the major cities of the country like Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai. Pre-paid taxis are available to travel to the nearby locations. Frequent rail services are available for all the major cities from this junction.

3. By Road: National and international highways connect Mathura to the major cities in the country. Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation provides a good range of bus facilities to Kanpur, Agra, Delhi and Lucknow. A good frequency of luxury buses is also available at the bus station to Mathura.
