Reliance life sciences have developed a real-time Reverse Transcription- Polymerase Chain Reaction (rRT-PCR) kit which tests and promises the diagnosis of COVID-19 infection in about 2 hours time. The test methodologies which we have now take up to 24 hours to give the result. The qualitative detection of nucleic acid from SARS-CoV-2 takes up to 24 hours to give a diagnosis. Reliance Life Sciences, a subsidiary of Mukesh Ambani owned Reliance Industries Ltd., the computational scientists has analyzed more than 100 genomes of SARS-CoV-3 and designed the unique RT-PCR primers to develop qualitative –Real-Time PCR (RT-PCR) for COVID-19 detection.

RT-PCR kit is of Gold Standard and is named as R-Green Kit (SARS COV2-real-time-PCR) and validated technically as a satisfactory performance by ICMR. The validation process has neither approved nor disapproved the kit design and also the kits user-friendliness is not certified. The Sources said the RT-PCR can detect E-gene, R-gene, RdRp, a gene of SARS COV2 virus with Actin as an internal control.

According to ICMR results, the kit has shown 98.7% sensitivity and 98.8% specificity. The Reliance Life Sciences said proudly, the kit is an indigenous development of the Research and Development Scientists working at the center. The greatest advantage of this RT-PCR kit is its simplicity to use and its usage of readily available simple reagents and primers synthesized in India, transforming the kit to a complete ‘Made in India’ product. The diagnosis time is about 2 hours approximately.
