In this deadly pandemic period almost 58 new trials involving ayurveda were registered from March 1 to June 25 in the clinical Trial Registry of India (CTRI) between March 1, 2020 and June 25, 2020. It highlighted the emerging nationwide trend of evidence-based studies in Ayush disciplines, the AYUSH ministry said on Wednesday. In a statement by AYUSH ministry reveals a fact, out of 203 trials registered at CTRI, 61.5 percent almost 125 trials were from Ayush disciplines. The ministry further said, “The trails will provide useful information to the researchers which will help them to strategize the next course of action and also help the general public in understanding the contribution of Ayurveda in combating COVID-19”.

A recent study titled “Ayurveda Research Studies on COVID-19 Registered in CTRI:A critical Appraisal” published in the ‘Journal of Research in Ayurvedic Sciences’ shows more focus on the growing ‘research culture’ in Ayush Disciplines. The state governments and various Ayurveda Stakeholders associated with the AYUSH ministry have sponsored about 70% of the total trials. 58 trials were registered only on COVID-19. The majority of the trials included adult participants of both genders.

The ministry added, “Once completed, the results of these promising studies will expectedly be published at the earliest so that it will be useful for the policymakers from the Ayush Systems of medicines to strategize effective solutions to benefit public health initiatives”. Also, for the global scientific community these trials will provide information about the outcomes of Ayurveda conducted on COVID-19. It will be a base for collaborative studies at national and global levels.
