The legendary actor, producer, director, and politician Dutt died on May 25 in the year 2005. In his career spanning over 40 decades, the actor played the role of a dacoit in nearly 20 movies.

Sunil Dutt was caught in between the India-Pakistan partition riots when was 18 years old; his life was then saved by a young man named Jacob and his family. Nargis played the role of Dutt's mother in Mother India; Dutt saved Nargis from a fire on the sets. They fell in love and got married. When Nargis died of pancreatic cancer, Sunil founded the Nargis Dutt Foundation in her memory to cure cancer patients.
He was the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports in the Manmohan Singh government (2004-2005); he held this post until his death in 2005. The megastar died of a heart attack in his sleep.
He is the two-time winner of the Filmfare Best Actor Award and had also received a Padma Shri by the Government of India.
