Silk Smitha was born on 2nd December 1960 in Eluru in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India. She was an Indian Film Actress who best known for her work in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Kannada films. She was born to Ramallu and Sarasamma. She has a brother named V Naga Vara Prasad.
Remembered for her roles in numerous Malayalam, Tamil, Hindi, and Telugu films, this Indian actress is particularly notable for her portrayal of Silk in the 1979 movie Vandichakkaram. After appearing in this film, the actress previously known as Vijayalakshmi adopted the stage name of Silk Smitha.
Silk Smitha entered the entertainment industry as a makeup artist but began performing after being mentored by actor and director Vinu Chakravarthy. She earned critical acclaim for her performance in the 1981 movie Alaigal Oyivathillai.
The daughter of Sarasamma and Ramallu, she spent her youth in Eluru, Andhra Pradesh, India. Tragically, she committed suicide at the age of thirty-five. She co-starred with Kamal Haasan in the acclaimed 1982 Tamil film Moondram Pirai.
On September 23, 1996, Silk Smitha was found dead at her apartment in Chennai after she reportedly committed suicide. While the exact reason is yet to be discovered, it is reported that the actress was battling multiple problems, including financial crunch, disillusionment in love and severe depression.
