BHIND: The re-polling process is presently underway at a polling booth within the Ater Assembly constituency of Madhya Pradesh's Bhind district, confirmed an official source.
Commencing at 7 a.m., the voting process is progressing smoothly at booth number 3, located in polling center number 71 in Kishupura. It is scheduled to conclude at 6 p.m., the official reported.
The decision for re-polling was initiated by the Election Commission of India due to a breach of voting secrecy. It was observed that certain individuals had recorded videos of the voting process at the said booth in Kishupura during the elections held on November 17.
In response to this violation, four members of the polling party have faced suspension, as highlighted by Sanjeev Shrivastava, the Bhind collector, and district returning officer.
During the re-polling, voters are being marked with indelible ink on their middle finger in accordance with the prescribed guidelines. Additionally, strict measures are in place prohibiting voters from carrying mobile phones inside the booth, ensuring compliance with all regulations outlined in the model code of conduct.
Moreover, the re-polling process is being meticulously documented through videography, the official further added.
The Ater Assembly seat witnesses a contest between State BJP Minister and incumbent MLA Arvind Singh Bhadauria, and former legislator Hemant Katare of the Congress.
Madhya Pradesh conducted elections for all 230 assembly seats in a single phase on November 17, recording a voter turnout of 77.15%, as confirmed by the Election Commission. The counting of votes is scheduled to take place on December 3.
