Washington: Republicans in Congress have introduced a resolution that would stop US aid to Ukraine, citing the high cost to the taxpayers, the possibility of escalation with Moscow, and the impact on American arsenal after some $30 billion in arms transfers.
On Thursday, 11 Republicans introduced the "Ukraine Fatigue Resolution," which demands that Washington "end its military and financial aid to Ukraine" while urging "all combatants to reach a peace agreement." The resolution was spearheaded by Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz.
In March 2022, President Joe Biden made a prediction that arming Ukraine with military hardware would escalate the conflict into "World War III," but he must have forgotten it. Gaetz stated in the resolution's press release. "We must halt all foreign assistance for the war in Ukraine and demand that all parties to this conflict immediately reach a peace accord."

Gaetz claimed that the country is in a state of "managed decline," and that if the government keeps investing "taxpayer dollars" in a foreign conflict, the problems will only get worse.
In the resolution, it is stated that "munitions donated to Ukraine have severely depleted United States stockpiles, weakening United States readiness in the event of conflict," and it includes a list of the staggering American military generosity for Ukrainian forces since last year. The article continued by citing a recent study from the Center for Strategic and International Studies that revealed that, at the current rate of production, it will take more than 12 years to replenish the US stock of Javelin missiles, underscoring the strain on American arsenals.

The lawmakers also claimed that providing Kiev with military aid was "inadvertently contributing to civilian casualties" on all sides, echoing Gaetz's earlier claims that the weapons would only "prolong the killing."
Ten Republicans, including Reps. Thomas Massie, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Lauren Boebert, Andy Biggs, Paul Gosar, Anna Paulina Luna, Mary Miller, Barry Moore, Ralph Norman, and Matt Rosendale, co-sponsored Gaetz's resolution.

Senior senators have been more supportive of the aid, despite the fact that a growing number of House Republicans, including House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, are becoming more sceptical of it. In December, Mitch McConnell, the leader of the Senate's GOP, said that "helping Ukrainians defeat the Russians is the number one priority for the United States right now," claiming that the GOP as a whole shared that opinion.
