Vinnytsia: At least 23 people died as a result of the cruise missile attacks on Vinnytsia in central Ukraine. After a Russian missile strike on a central Ukrainian city the day before that left at least 23 people dead, search teams using sniffer dogs have combed through the debris looking for people missing.

As the war approaches the five-month mark, Russian forces are pounding other locations in an effort to forcibly pull territory from Ukraine and try to kill the morale of its leaders, citizens, and soldiers.

Since President Vladimir Putin began the invasion on February 24, the most recent incidents to claim civilian lives and stoke international outrage were the cruise missile attacks on Vinnytsia launched by a Russian submarine on Thursday.

Donbass in eastern Ukraine has been the focus of the campaign, but Russian forces also frequently fire on targets there.

Russia's involvement in the conflict has resulted in more than 17,000 attacks on civilian targets, according to the interior ministry of Ukraine. These attacks have forced millions of people from their homes, killed thousands of fighters and civilians, and had a negative impact on the global economy by driving up prices and decreasing exports of vital Ukrainian and Russian goods like food, fuel, and fertiliser.

According to Oleksandr Kutovyi, spokesman for the emergency service in the Vinnytsia region, more than 73 patients, including four children, remained in hospitals and 18 were still missing as a result of the missile strike on Thursday.

On Friday, search teams were scouring two locations: a concert hall close to an outdoor recreation area and park where mothers with children frequently stroll and an office building with a medical centre inside. Only 10 of the nearly 20 fatalities, according to Vinnytsia governor Serhiy Borzov, have been identified thus far.

He criticised Russia's "barbaric behaviour that tramples on international humanitarian law" and declared that "Russia deliberately hit civilians and all those responsible for the crime must be brought to account."

Three missiles were used, according to Kyrylo Tymoshenko, a deputy head of the president's office. The question of why yesterday and why in Vinnytsia has no resolution, according to Mr. Tymoshenko. "We anticipate that this could occur at any time, anywhere in Ukraine."

The Russian military announced on Friday that its forces had struck an officers' club, which the concert hall was known for during the Soviet era, after initially remaining silent following the strikes on Vinnytsia. The site, according to Ukrainian authorities, is unrelated to the military.

According to the presidential office of Ukraine, over the course of the past 24 hours, Russian shelling has resulted in 26 civilian deaths and 190 additional injuries.

Three additional victims were among those in the Donetsk region, which together with neighbouring Luhansk  which is almost entirely under Russian control  makes up the larger Donbas region.
