Corfu: At least 12 truck drivers are still missing on the second day of the Italian ferry fire. It is being told that the fire in Euroferry Olympia has stopped the boarding of rescuers. Tugboats have managed to take the ship closer to the island. ERT TV, on the other hand, says that on Saturday afternoon, the ferry was about 6 nautical miles (about 11 km) north of Corfu.
On the other hand, coastguards say that of all the missing lorry drivers, seven are from Bulgaria, three from Greece, one from Turkey and one from Lithuania. So far, the cause of the fire remains unknown. Giannis Plakiotakis, minister of shipping, said: "A team of the Maritime Accident and Incident Investigation Service has begun an investigation. The team is in the area to investigate. The Greek state agency ANA also reported that the heat onboard the ship had reached 500 degrees Celsius. There is a thick cloud shadow of black smoke in the sky after the fire has been set on fire again.
In this case, the ANA said that rescuers on board the burning ship stopped work on Friday evening due to the scorching heat, dense smoke and darkness. After the fire last night, 280 passengers were evacuated to Corfu on Friday. Olympia was going to Italy from Greece. The ferry captain and two engineers were brought before the prosecutor on Saturday. Shipping Minister Giannis Plakiotakis told Sky television that, after the fire is extinguished, the ferry would be taken to safety to flush out any fuel and prevent marine pollution.
