Mumbai: Due to heavy rains in the financial capital of the country, on Thursday, the back of a five-storey building in the Fort area has collapsed. After which more than 12 hours passed, but still the work of removing debris is going on. Jawans of NDRF, Fire Brigade and Mumbai Police are still conducting a search operation.
The latest update in this entire matter is that a total of 24 people have been evacuated so far. Out of which 6 people have been officially declared dead. The possibility of 2 other people being buried under the debris is speculated. This is the second such incident in the last 24 hours in Mumbai. The first incident took place in the Malad area of Mumbai on Thursday afternoon where a 2-storey building collapsed, 2 people lost their lives.
According to the officials, Bhanushali Building located on Mint Road in the Fort area was declared dangerous. Sources in BMC said that the Maharashtra Housing and Regional Development Authority had already evacuated the building for repair. The injured have been admitted to JJ Hospital for treatment. On Thursday evening, Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray visited the spot. Before him, Housing Minister Jitendra Awhad, Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pedenkar and local MP Arvind Sawant had also visited the spot.
