New Delhi: Researchers from the Indian Institute of Technology, Mandi and the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB) have detected 'Phytochemicals' in the leaves of the Himalayan plant Buransh which is used to treat coronavirus infection. Phytochemicals or plant chemicals can be organic compounds that are naturally available in the flora and can be health-beneficial.

Ability to fight viruses in chemical leaves: Research revealed that plant-containing leaves of Buransh or Rhododendron Arboreum found in the Himalayan region have antiviral or virus-fighting capacity. The conclusions of the study are recently described in the journal Biomolecular Structure and Dynamics. According to the research team, it has been nearly 2 years since the Coronavirus epidemic began and researchers are trying to understand the nature of the virus and are trying to find new ways to prevent infection.

These leaves prevent viruses from entering: Shyam Kumar Maskpalli, associate professor at the School of Basic Science at IIT Mandi, says, "Vaccination is one way to give the body the ability to fight against viruses, while research is still being carried out on non-vaccinated drugs around the world that are going to prevent virus attacks on the human body. These drugs contain chemicals that either strengthen receptor or receptor proteins in our body cells and prevent viruses from entering them or can prevent the virus from having its effect in our body by attacking them.''
