RBI big announcement, now you have to change your check book

New Delhi: the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced to implement Check Truncation System (CTS) by September 2020 across the country. This means, non-CTS checks will not be accepted from September. If you also have an old check book, you can go to the bank and get a check book with the new CTS check.

According to the CTS system, instead of sending the check to the concerned bank, its photo is sent electronically. RBI introduced this system in 2010. It is currently applicable only in some big cities. Most banks have already stopped accepting non-CTS checks from 1 January 2020. If the CTS-2010 check is not written on the check in your check book, it means it is a non-CTS check book. The Check Truncation System (CTS 2010) was implemented from January 1, 2013 in all banks of the country.

There is no need to carry checks from one bank to another to clear the check in CTS. Only an electronic copy of it is offered. Therefore, this system effectively eliminates the cost of moving the checks from one place to another, reduces the time it takes to collect and improves the entire process of check processing. This process is being adopted worldwide.
