Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government is preparing to deliver rations from ATMs at ration depots. Grain ATMs will soon be seen in this state. The beneficiaries of the state will have to enter the Aadhaar number and ration card number in these grain ATMs and after that, the food grains will come out of the ATM. The State Government is planning to set it up at Bhubaneswar for the first time under the pilot project.
In the Odisha Assembly on Tuesday, Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Atanu Sabyasachi said that preparations are being made to provide rations to beneficiaries in Odisha through grain ATMs. Under the project, these ATMs will be set up in urban areas in the first phase. Also, in the next phase, it is planned to install grain ATMs in all the cities of the state. Minister Sabyasachi said that a special code card will be given to the beneficiaries in the state to collect rations from the grain ATM. The Grain ATM machine will be fully touch screen, with a biometric facility present. Here, the beneficiaries will have to enter their Aadhaar number and ration card number. Thereafter, the beneficiaries will get the foodgrains from the ATM. Rice will be made available to most of the beneficiaries under the National Food Security Act and the State Food Security Function.
The Odisha government had signed several partnership agreements with the World WarEhousing Programme (WFP) in the year 2021. Some of the projects to be taken up under these include distribution systems, procurement of paddy, grain ATMs, and smart mobile storage units. Visho Parjauli, Country Director, WFP, said that the Odisha government has been an innovation and a great partner for @UNWFP_India, which is now ready to implement 'Grain ATM' on a pilot basis to provide PDS ration and enhance food security among the needy state's population.
