Mumbai: Two-time world champion Australian captain Ricky Ponting believes that the Australian team led by Aaron Finch can beat India at his home in the three-match ODI series. It was under Finch's captaincy that Australia beat India 3–2 last year in a five-match ODI series at his home.

Ponting said in a question-and-answer session on Twitter that "Australia is confident after a great World Cup and a great Test summer, but Team India would also like to avenge the loss of the previous series. Ponting also expressed confidence in Marnus Labushan, who was part of the ODI team for the first time. Labushan has made a place in the ODI team after performing brilliantly in Tests. Ponting said, "I think he will do better for Australia in the middle order. He is a great spin player, he runs well in between wickets. Fielding also does great and can do good leg-spin. He is the overall package. "
