Patna: Lalu Prasad Yadav, former Bihar Chief Minister and leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), announced on Tuesday that the INDIA alliance is preparing to challenge the leadership of Narendra Modi in Mumbai. This move comes ahead of the third meeting of the opposition bloc scheduled to take place in Mumbai on August 31 and September 1. Yadav emphasized that the opposition front is determined to oust the BJP government led by Narendra Modi from the Centre in the upcoming year.

Addressing the media, the RJD chief stated, "We are gearing up to challenge Narendra Modi's leadership in Mumbai. We are ready to take on Narendra Modi's leadership and remove it." He said We are going to climb Narendra Modi's throat in Mumbai. We are holding the portrait of Narendra Modi, we have to remove it. The 26-party opposition alliance, known as the INDIA alliance, has been formed to present a unified front against the BJP in the forthcoming elections. The alliance has previously convened twice, first in Patna on June 23 and then in Bengaluru on July 17-18.

Meanwhile, according to reliable sources, Mallikarjun Kharge, the Congress chief, is likely to be appointed as the convener of the INDIA alliance. The formal announcement of his appointment is expected to be made during the Mumbai meeting. This development follows the mention of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's name for the position earlier. The leader of the Janata Dal (United) clarified that he was not motivated by personal ambitions to lead opposition unity, expressing his support for someone else to be chosen as the convener of the opposition coalition INDIA.

In a statement on Sunday, Nitish Kumar noted, "We will discuss issues related to seat sharing and finalize various other agendas in the Mumbai meeting. More political parties are expected to join the INDIA alliance, and this will be announced in the forthcoming meeting." Kumar, who played a pivotal role in bringing together diverse parties opposed to the BJP, expressed optimism about the alliance's growth. Furthermore, Maharashtra Congress President Nana Patole confirmed on Monday that the upcoming mega opposition meeting will see the participation of senior party leader Sonia Gandhi. He also reiterated that the alliance's official logo would be unveiled during the significant gathering.
