Gaya: A court in Gaya district of Bihar sentenced former RJD MLA Kunti Devi to life imprisonment on Monday in an eight-year-old murder case. Additional District and Sessions Judge Sangam Singh on February 26, 2013, sentenced the former MLA to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 50,000 while convicting him of killing JD (U) activist Sumirak Yadav.

The FIR was lodged by the deceased's brother alleging that the attackers were the henchmen of Kunti Devi and attributed the political rivalry to the killing. Kunti Devi has been a two-time MLA from Atari seat in the Gaya district. His son Ajay Yadav is currently an MLA from this seat. It may be noted that Rajendra Yadav, husband of former RJD MLA Kunti Devi, has also been an MLA from Atari assembly constituency. But he is still in jail in connection with the murder of a child. In fact, after being declared elected in 2005, Rajendra Yadav was taking a victory procession with his supporters and going to his village Madhopbigha.

In the meantime, a girl standing on the roof was shot dead in a shootout by people involved in a victory procession near Darapur village. In this case, Rajendra Yadav escaped from police custody. But he was later arrested and is still serving a life sentence. Rajendra Yadav has been a domineering politician in the Attari assembly constituency.
