Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan made a strong comeback before the all-important ICC World Cup 2019. However, duo saved their best for the fourth and penultimate ODI at IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali. The openers made a 193-run stand for the opening wicket and registered the highest-ever opening stand in an India versus Australia contest in the format.

The duo broke their own records from the 2013 series between both sides. Meanwhile, India's former opening duo of Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly remain at the fourth spot. Tendulkar –Gangualy made 175 runs partnership in 1998.

The opening pair were in their elements in the ongoing encounter versus Aaron Finch and his side. Electing to bat first, the right-left combination made full use of the flat pitch on offer. The left-hander started off fluently with his drives and cuts. On the other hand, his partner was slow to start off and played the second fiddle to perfection before taking off after his fifty.
