Congratulations Team India:  Rohit Sharma, who debuted in ODIs against Ireland in June 2007, has accumulated 10,831 runs in 264 matches.

On Sunday, August 4, during the second ODI against Sri Lanka at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Rohit Sharma delivered an impressive performance. The Indian captain faced 44 balls and hit five fours and four sixes, scoring a total of 64 runs. Despite being the top scorer for India for the second consecutive match, Rohit's efforts couldn't secure a victory for the team.

During his 64-run innings, Rohit reached a significant milestone by surpassing former Indian captain Rahul Dravid's record of 10,768 ODI runs, becoming India's fourth-highest run scorer in ODIs. Rohit now stands with 10,831 runs in 264 matches.

Leading the list for India is the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, who scored 18,426 runs in 463 ODIs. Virat Kohli follows with 13,886 runs in 294 matches, and Sourav Ganguly is third with 11,221 runs in 308 ODIs.

Rohit's outstanding knock also saw him surpass MS Dhoni's tally of 10,773 runs, making Rohit the 11th leading run scorer in ODIs. Dhoni scored 10,599 runs in 347 matches for India and an additional 174 runs in three matches for Asia XI in 2007.

Despite Rohit's heroics, India faced a surprising defeat, losing to Sri Lanka by 32 runs. Chasing a target of 240, India managed only 208 runs, losing all their wickets in 42.2 overs. Jeffrey Vandersay was instrumental for Sri Lanka, taking six wickets for 33 runs in 10 overs, helping his team stage a remarkable comeback after Rohit and Shubman Gill's 97-run opening partnership.

Currently ranked as the world's No. 1 ODI team, India will aim to win the third and final ODI on Wednesday, August 7, to avoid the embarrassment of losing a bilateral series against Sri Lanka in Gautam Gambhir’s first tour as head coach of the Indian cricket team.
