Rolls Royce Motor Cars is scheduled to make the global debut of its first-ever electric car on Wednesday, after years of showing EV prototypes. The EV, which will be targeted at the premium carmaker's ultra-rich customers, may have a range of up to 500 kilometres on a single charge.

The global presentation was confirmed by Torsten Muller-Otvos, CEO of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, in a post on the social networking site LinkedIn late Monday. “I made a public, on-the-record pledge that we will bring the first completely electric Rolls-Royce to market within the next decade,” he wrote. And, right now, our company is embarking on a historic undertaking to create the first, super-luxury car of its type."

Rolls-entry Royce's into the realm of electric vehicles is unsurprising, given the company has previously stated its intention to go all-electric within the next 20 years. Rolls-Royce debuted the first electric concept based on the Phantom in 2011. In 2016, Rolls-Royce unveiled the Vision Next 100 concept car, which was entirely electric and had self-driving capabilities.

“Through the extraordinary talents, experience, vision, and devotion of our engineers, designers, and experts at the Home of Rolls-Royce, this will happen sooner than many believed imaginable," Muller-Otvos remarked.
Rolls-Royce has yet to reveal any information regarding the forthcoming electric vehicle. However, few things are definite based on what the ultra-luxury manufacturer has exhibited as ideas throughout the years. The automaker announced earlier this year that it is working on an electric vehicle named Silent Shadow. In May, the carmaker applied for a trademark with the German Patent Office. The British luxury manufacturer has utilised the term 'Shadow' for several vehicles, such as the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow.

According to rumours, BMW's Munich centre has a prototype of the Phantom powered by lithium-ion batteries. Tests are also reportedly being carried out to launch an entirely new model. According to reports, the first Rolls-Royce electric car could come with a 100 kWh battery pack and offer a range of at least 500 kms without recharge.

With its first electric car only hours from its global debut, Rolls-Royce is on track to beat Bentley to become the first among the super-luxury brands to launch its first fully-electric model.
