New Delhi: Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi has tried to corner the BJP by making statements on Hinduism and Hindutva at several of his public meetings in the recent past. The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has hit back at Rahul Gandhi for describing Hinduism and Hindutva as separate from each other saying that the two are not separate and they (Rahul) want to escalate the dispute in the country.

Union leader Suresh Bhaiyaji Joshi, without naming Rahul Gandhi, said that the basis of those who are trying to create controversy over the issue is actually a rumour. Joshi further said that those who believe the statement to be correct cannot find any reason to dismiss it. Hinduism and Hindutva are no different. If I am a Hindu, Hindutva is my character. So these two things are no different. Rahul Gandhi had recently attacked the BJP at a Congress rally in Jaipur, describing Hinduism and Hindutva as separate.

Rahul had said that Hindus and Hindutvas are different. It is not one, they are two different words and they also mean completely different. I am a Hindu, but not a Hindutva. Mahatma Gandhi was a Hindu and Nathuram Godse was a Hindutva. Rahul Gandhi also said that Hindus are always in search of truth, while Hindutva throws the whole life into finding power and gaining power. Rahul Gandhi's statement was severely cornered by social media users and accused Rahul of trying to divide Hindus for political gains. Some people said that Rahul's statement was exactly the same as that of someone who said, 'I am a man, but I don't have manhood.' On the other hand, some people advised Rahul to learn Hindi, in which the skin suffix is used to form emotional nouns. Such as motherhood for mother and fatherhood for father.
