The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has recently initiated the "One Vehicle, One FASTag" campaign, aiming to curb misuse by vehicle owners who use the same FASTag for multiple vehicles or have multiple FASTags for a single vehicle. NHAI has set the deadline of January 31 for compliance with this campaign.

As part of this initiative, NHAI plans to cancel FASTags that do not have updated Know Your Customer (KYC) details after January 31. Failure to comply with KYC requirements may result in double toll tax payments for affected users. Here's how you can avoid your FASTag being canceled and ensure a smooth toll payment experience:

Activate and Update KYC: To keep your FASTag active, it is essential to update your KYC details. This decision aligns with the guidelines set by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Ensure that your KYC is completed for the latest FASTag issued. FASTags without completed KYC by January 31 will be deactivated.

Latest FASTag for Efficiency: When purchasing a new vehicle, FASTag is now provided by default, typically through banks. Subsequently, many individuals acquire additional FASTags from toll plazas or online platforms. Some even use multiple FASTags for a single vehicle. The recommendation is to conduct KYC for the latest FASTag to automatically deactivate any previously used FASTags in your vehicle.

NHAI's decision to implement "One Vehicle, One FASTag" stems from the need to streamline the toll collection process and prevent misuse of FASTags. With nearly 80 million users of FASTag in India, this electronic toll collection system has become integral for efficient and hassle-free toll payments.

FASTag operates on Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology, affixed to the vehicle's windshield. When the vehicle approaches a toll plaza, the sensor reads the FASTag, automatically deducting the toll charges and opening the toll gate.

In conclusion, the "One Vehicle, One FASTag" campaign by NHAI is a step towards enhancing the efficiency of toll collection in India. Vehicle owners are urged to comply with KYC requirements and ensure the use of the latest FASTag to avoid deactivation and potential double toll payments. As the deadline of January 31 approaches, it is crucial for users to act promptly and adhere to the new regulations to experience a seamless toll payment process on national highways.
