The Indian rupee gained 30 paise against the US dollar on Thursday, provisionally closing at 75.24 after a favourable trend in local stocks.
The local currency opened at 75.43 vs the US dollar on the interbank forex market, with an intraday high of 75.22 and a low of 75.44. The rupee strengthened by 5 paise versus the US dollar on Wednesday, closing at 75.54.
The dollar index, which measures the strength of the greenback against a basket of six currencies, increased 0.03 percent to 96.10. The global oil benchmark, Brent crude futures, slipped 0.20 percent to USD 75.14 per barrel. According to stock exchange data, foreign institutional investors were net sellers in the capital market on Wednesday, offloading shares worth Rs. 827.26 crore.
On the domestic stock market front, The BSE Sensex finished 384.72 points higher, or 0.68 percent higher, at 57,315.28, while the broader NSE Nifty climbed 117.15 points, or 0.69 percent, to 17,072.60.
