In the early trade today, the rupee opened 5 paise down at 66.95 against the dollar.
The 30-share BSE Sensex was trading 67.67 points, or 0.24 per cent, up at 28,223.23, while the 50-share NSE Nifty index was trading 12.10 points, or 0.14 per cent, up at 8,736.80.
On Wednesday, the rupee closed 3 paise higher at 66.90 against the dollar. Yesterday, Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) sold shares worth Rs 16.43 crore.
