Rupee falls 5 paise versus US dollar to conclude at 74.79

Currency Market: On Wednesday, the Indian rupee fell 5 paise to 74.79 against the US dollar, owing to continued foreign fund outflows and rising crude oil prices.

The rupee opened at 74.70 against  the US dollar on the interbank foreign exchange, with an intra-day high of 74.68 and a low of 74.87 against the greenback.  The local currency finished the day at 74.79, down 5 paise from its previous closing of 74.74.

Dollar bulls maintained control on the international front, with the greenback rebounding from its 100-day moving average and equities regaining some lost ground. The dollar index, which measures the strength of the greenback against a basket of six currencies, was down 0.14 percent at 95.51. Brent crude futures lost 0.36 percent to USD 90.45 per barrel, the global benchmark.

The BSE Sensex concluded the day 657.39 points or 1.14 percent higher at 58,465.97, while the wider NSE Nifty ended the day 197.05 points or 1.14 percent higher at 17,463.80. According to stock exchange data, foreign institutional investors were net sellers in the capital market on Tuesday, offloading shares worth RS 1,967.89 crore.

Commodity Market: Gold rose by Rs 247, while Silver rose by Rs 825
