MOSCOW: Russian warships are conducting training in the Baltic Sea,while NATO exercises are taking place in the same area.  the Russian Defense Ministry said.

The large exercises feature about 60 surface warships, boats, and support vessels, around 45 aircraft and helicopters, and about 10,000 soldiers, according to a statement released by the Ministry on Friday.

According to the Xinhua news agency, the sailors would practise searching dummy enemy ships and taking anti-air, anti-ship, and anti-submarine defence tactics.  The land forces have been moved to selected sites in Russia's Kaliningrad region, where they will engage the simulated enemy with real fire. Drills will be held through June 19th.

Russia is flexing its might while 14 NATO members along with two NATO partner nations (Finland and Sweden) are presently participating in the Baltic Operations exercises from June 5 to 17 involving over 45 ships, more than 75 aircraft and 7,500 soldiers.
