The Russia-Ukraine war has called for more causalities as the ongoing war situation is not seeing to be stopping any time soon. More than seven thousand civilians have been killed, but the actual number could be higher said the UN.

From February 24, 2022, to January, 2023, a total of 18,096 civilian casualties have been recorded in the country which include 6,952 deaths and 11,144 injuries, said the Office of the UN high commissioner for human rights (OHCHR) in a statement. “Most of the civilian casualties recorded were caused by the use of explosive weapons with wide area effects, including shelling from heavy artillery, multiple launch rocket systems, missiles and airstrikes,” said OHCHR in the statement.

The demographic bifurcation of the deceased and wounded has been shared by the Office of the UN high commissioner for human rights. A total of 6,952 have been killed of which 2,758 were men, 1,857 were women, 176 were girls, and 220 were boys, but for 35 children and 1,906 adults, sex remains unknown. A total of 11,144 have been injured of which 2,425 were men, 1,739 were women, 234 were girls, and 322 were boys, but for 254 children and 6,170 adults, the sex is not known.

UN has strongly opposed the Russia’s attack on Dnipro, Ukraine attacking the nine story residential building. This attack has killed at least 40 civilians including three children and around 75 injured in the attack, which could rise as well. After this attack at least 1000 people are now homeless.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs has also tweeted, "The death toll from Saturday's strike in Dnipro continues to rise. Humanitarian Coordinator Denise Brown condemned the immense civilian toll of the attack by the Russian Federation Forces and called for an effective investigation of suspected war crimes”.

The strike on Saturday at the nine-story residential building prompted renewed calls for Moscow to be charged with war crimes. President Volodymyr Zelensky, “Your cowardly silence, your attempt to ‘wait out’ what is happening, will only end with those same terrorists coming after you one day.”
