Mexico: As per Mexican authorities, the recent death of an American tourist appears to be a "unfortunate accident."
Elliot Blair, a U.S. citizen, died on January 14 at Las Rocas Resort and Spa, which is located on the shores of Rosarito Beach, just south of Tijuana, on Mexico's Baja California peninsula's western coast. While investigators initially thought Blair died from a fall, a specific injury on his forehead "would not have been caused by a fall," a local law enforcement official told ABC News on Monday.
However, the Baja California State Attorney General's Office later issued a statement saying that an autopsy determined Blair's death "was the result of an unfortunate accident due to the deceased's fall from a third floor." The office stated that the investigation is still ongoing and that it is in contact with US authorities, who are sharing pertinent information with Blair's family.

The US Department of State confirmed to ABC News on Tuesday that they are aware of reports of an American citizen's death in Rosarito Beach, Mexico. According to the spokesperson, the State Department is prepared to provide all appropriate consular assistance. She declined to comment further, citing respect for the family during this difficult time.
Blair, an Orange County public defender, was celebrating his first wedding anniversary with his wife at the Mexican resort on January 15. According to Los Angeles ABC station KABC, he was discovered dead the day before, just hours after the couple had gone out for dinner and dancing.
His family said in a press release issued Tuesday night through their attorney that they believe he was the victim of "a brutal crime," and that no one from the Rosarito Beach Police Department or the Mexican government has reached out to them directly.

According to the statement, the family received communication from a liaison to the coroner's office, who informed them that the cause of death was severe head trauma. According to the statement, Blair's family is adamant that his body not be cremated and has hired a private investigator to conduct an independent investigation.
His family claimed that his wife had received "multiple versions of what happened." The family said in their statement that the "only real facts that are known" at this time are that the incident happened in an outdoor walkway "located outside the front door of their room," not a private balcony; that Blair was not drunk at the time of the incident; that he and his wife had stayed at the Las Rocas Resort and Spa numerous times; that he was discovered in his sleeping clothes, a T-shirt and underwear; and that he was a native Spanish speaker.
Kimberly Williams, Blair's wife, is a public defender for Orange County. Despite having "reasons to believe and evidence that there was possible foul play," the Williams family told KABC on Monday that they "don't want to compromise the investigation."
Blair was a "devoted husband, wonderful person, and a fantastic lawyer who dedicated his life to serving his clients and helping the county's most vulnerable," Martin Schwarz, a spokesman for the Orange County Public Defender's Office, told KABC on Monday.

Schwarz continued, "He touched countless lives, and his loss will be felt deeply by all who knew him. We've been in touch with the family and are doing everything we can to help them through this trying time, including collaborating with state and local authorities to help them find answers.
