Russia: Russian President Vladimir Putin introduced a measure to the State Duma on Wednesday to make the process of obtaining citizenship easier for persons living within the Soviet Union's borders and their offspring, according to Russian media statement.
Source quoted that this option will be offered to children, Great Patriotic War veterans, former Soviet citizens, and Russian nationals' close relatives. Citizenship cannot be taken away from Russian people under this bill. It further noted that Russian citizens have the right to change their citizenship and will not be expelled or extradited if they do so.
No citizen's rights will be restricted as a result of their skin colour, race, ethnicity, language, or religion under this act. The main difference between this newly presented draught and current legislation is that only marriage will disqualify someone from becoming a citizen. This measure will make it easier for those who have a child with a Russian citizen to get citizenship, even through adoption. Military service members serving in Russian troops stationed outside of Russia as of February 6, 1992 would be eligible for this simplified naturalisation. This simplified procedure for obtaining Russian citizenship does not apply to investors or highly trained professionals.
