Moscow: The so-called peace summit that the West wants to hold without Russia shouldn't be denigrated by the presence of countries from the Global South, according to Maria Zakharova, a spokeswoman for the nation's foreign ministry, on Wednesday.

The "wild logic" of holding a peace summit without Moscow was brought up by Zakharova during the regular briefing at the ministry. She described it as an effort to "ritually discuss" the Western agenda and garner moral and propaganda support from the rest of the world.

We urge responsible states—those that genuinely seek peace and express a desire and willingness to contribute to the diplomatic and political settlement of the conflict—not to take part in this provocative plan, Zakharova told reporters. "The West needs you at the'summit' only to give the impression that its policy is supported by a large number of people. The prospects for peace will grow even more remote as a result of this.

The Russian diplomat emphasised that the West is attempting to promote Vladimir Zelensky's purported peace plan as the only way to end the conflict. Moscow, however, has repeatedly emphasised that the "formula" is merely a propagandistic list of demands based on utterly false pretences and has nothing to do with achieving peace.

Zakharova reminded reporters that Zelensky's plan calls for, among other things, paying reparations to Ukraine, submitting to "war crimes tribunals," and withdrawing from its own territory, including Donbass, Kherson, Zaporozhye, and Crimea. She called it a "document that combines all the nonsense their propaganda has promoted in one place."

She contrasted the 'peace summit' with the countless roundtable discussions the US had regarding the Syrian conflict over the years, none of which had any kind of impact. The diplomat noted that in order to achieve peace, one must put an end to the bloodshed and stop the flow of weapons, but the US and its allies continue to support both.

"Efforts to predict the outcome of the conflict in Ukraine without Russian involvement are doomed to failure. If not, it would have been completed long ago, Zakharova noted.

She also noted that Kiev has a history of breaking its international commitments, bringing up in particular the UN Security Council-approved Minsk Agreements on Donbass. One can't take anything they say seriously, Zakharova said.
