Moscow accused the USS John S McCain and allegedly threatened to ram a US destroyer during a rare naval standoff. The US ship was spotted between the two countries in the waters off Russia’s Pacific coast.  

After the threatening, the US warship then left the area, as recorded by Russia. Nevertheless, the US Navy denied any wrongdoing and said its ship had not been "expelled". In the Sae of Japan, this incident was recorded on Tuesday, also known as the East Sea, a body of water bordered by Japan, Russia and the Koreas. As per the  Russian defence ministry, it's Pacific Fleet destroyer Admiral Vinogradov used an international communications channel to warn the US ship. 7th Fleet, Lt Joe Keiley. " USS John S McCain was not 'expelled' from any nation's territory."

Both the countries exchanged blame for that incident. Both the countries usually accuse the other of dangerous military exercises at sea and in the air. Moscow and Washington's relations remain constrained, and President Vladimir Putin has still not congratulated Joe Biden on his victory in the US presidential election. In 2017, the USS John S McCain was involved in a dispute with an oil tanker off Singapore, when 10 sailors were killed.
