RUSSIA: Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, warned Kiev on Thursday that it should accept Moscow's terms right away or prepare for the worst. He added menacingly that Russia has only just begun its military action in Ukraine, which has now been ongoing for five months.

Sergei Lavrov, the foreign minister of Russia, arrived in Bali, an Indonesian resort island, for the G20 summit, which is expected to be overshadowed by tensions brought on by the Russia-Ukraine crisis. The summit will mark the first in-person encounter between some of Russia's most vocal detractors and longtime foreign minister Lavrov since the invasion of Ukraine, which Moscow has referred to as a "special military operation."

Since their invasion on February 24, Russian soldiers have taken over nearly 22% of Ukraine's cropland, affecting one of the main producers of grains and edible oils for the world market, according to NASA.

The Ukrainian military asserts that it has rejected some Russian advances in the eastern Donbas region of Ukraine, where Russian forces have increased their pressure. Over the previous 24 hours, shelling in the region has killed at least eight civilians and injured 25 more. On their side of the front, pro-Russian separatists claimed that four people were killed by Ukrainian attacks.
