Russian Ministry Tower Hit Again: Drone Strikes for the Second Time in Three Days

Moscow: On Tuesday, a drone struck a high-rise building in Moscow's financial district that houses three Russian government ministries for the second time in three days, in what Russia described as an attempted "terrorist attack" by Ukraine.

According to a Ukrainian presidential adviser, Moscow should prepare for "more war" and additional drone attacks.

The Ministry of Economic Development, the Digital Ministry, and the Ministry of Industry and Trade are all located in the "IQ quarter," the building that was struck. A section of its glass facade that was perched high above the ground was seen in video obtained by Reuters to have been damaged by the impact.

For the sake of the building's occupants' safety, experts are currently evaluating the infrastructure's condition and the extent of the damage. It will take some time, the economy minister's advisor Darya Levchenko said on Telegram. She stated that employees were using video conferences for work.

Since the beginning of May, when two drones were fired at the roof of a building inside the Kremlin complex, Moscow has experienced numerous drone attacks.

The incidents have not resulted in any fatalities or significant property damage, but they have caused widespread unease and are inconsistent with the Kremlin's claim that Russia's "special military operation" in Ukraine is going as planned.

Despite not explicitly taking credit for the attacks, Ukraine has expressed satisfaction over them. Ukrainian presidential advisor Mykhailo Podolyak wrote on X, the social media site formerly known as Twitter, "Moscow is quickly acclimating to a full-fledged war."

According to him, Russia should anticipate "more unidentified drones, more collapse, more civil conflicts, and more war." The Russian defence ministry claimed in a statement that it had stopped the "attempted terrorist attack" and shot down two drones west of Moscow's city centre. According to the report, a second attempt was stopped by jamming tools before it "out of control" and crashed into buildings in the Moskva-Citi business district.

Sergei Sobyanin, the mayor of Moscow, said it struck the same tower as on Sunday. The 21st floor's facade has been harmed. Over 150 square metres of glazing were destroyed, he claimed.

"We were going to see the tower where the explosion happened the day before yesterday," a witness told Reuters. We sprinted away when there was an unexpected explosion. Glass fragments flew around, and then smoke started to rise.

The security services then began operating in that manner. The fragments were enormous. One of the three main airports serving the capital, Vnukovo Airport, briefly shut down before resuming full operations.

Yandex, a tech company, sent a memo to staff on Sunday after the first drone struck the financial district warning them not to work after hours and to "take care." On Monday, Dmitry Peskov, a spokesman for the Kremlin, claimed that Ukrainian attacks on Moscow and other targets inside Russia were "acts of desperation" and that Russia was taking all precautions to defend itself.
