KIEV: A Russian rocket struck a residential apartment building in Kiev at around the same time that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres were doing a press conference in the capital city, injuring at least ten persons.
According to Ukrayinska Pravda, government adviser Anton Herashchenko stated the attack happened at 8.13 pm. on Thursday in Kiev's Shevchenkivskyi area.
"A fire broke out in the 25-story structure as a result of the shelling, with partial devastation of the first and second levels," he informed reporters on the site. The fire was put out at 9.25 pm., followed by search and rescue operations, according to the adviser, who added that five persons were saved. Herashchenko stated that the missile was launched from the Black Sea region, "most likely from the Ukrainian Crimean territory."
UN Secretary-General Guterres condemned the Security Council for failing to prevent or halt the conflict during the press conference, stressing that the UN will not abandon Ukraine and its people.
