New Delhi: Ruturaj Gaikwad, the opener for Maharashtra and Chennai Super Kings (CSK), has been named to India's Test squad for their upcoming trip of the West Indies, according to former Indian top selector Dilip Vengsarkar.
Vengsarkar disputes the common belief that Gaikwad's selection was influenced by his IPL (Indian Premier League) performance.

Vengsarkar is of the opinion that players who have the appropriate ability can adjust to various game forms. Additionally, he emphasises that while choosing teams, the IPL performance is not given preference.
Ruturaj Gaikwad is undoubtedly a player with a lot of potential, but Vengsarkar said that “his full ability would only be exposed when he gets the opportunity to play. It doesn’t matter if it’s the white ball or the red ball. “A skilled player may change their style to fit any format. We must pay attention to how he plays in Test cricket. I also find it difficult to understand the idea of a queue. Every player has a chance.”

The assertion that Gaikwad, regardless of his IPL experience, possesses the qualities necessary to succeed in Test cricket is clarified by Vengsarkar's remarks. The former head selector emphasises the value of rating players according to how well they perform in whatever type of game.
