The situation has become so frightening that the government has to deploy the army at the petrol pumps. In such a situation, India has extended a helping hand to Sri Lanka. With the help of India, the people of Sri Lanka are also getting help with their day-to-day problems.
In a tweet, India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said that the $500 million Line of Credit (LoC) assistance given by India to Sri Lanka is helping the people of Sri Lanka to meet their daily needs. He said he arrived at the Indian Oil (IOC) petrol pump in Colombo's central area. MD Manoj Gupta has given information about the fuel supply situation. Jaishankar arrived in Sri Lanka after a visit to the Maldives.
Earlier last week, there were reports that some people had died due to being in line to buy oil. With the increase in the prices of diesel petrol, long lines are being seen at the petrol pumps due to their shortage. Thousands of people queued up for hours to buy oil. Sri Lankan army spokeswoman Nilantha Premaratne had said that it has been decided to deploy the army at petrol pumps after the incident of death of three elderly people after standing in the queue for hours. Apart from this, there were also reports of violence due to mutual dispute.
