New Delhi: Sachin Pilot and Shashi Tharoor have been included in the Congress Working Committee (CWC) during a reshuffling of the top decision-making body of the Congress party, led by Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge. The CWC functions as the executive authority of the Congress and holds the ultimate power in interpreting and executing the party's constitution.
The revamped Congress Working Committee now comprises 39 members, featuring individuals such as Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Sachin Pilot, and Shashi Tharoor, among others. The decision to incorporate Sachin Pilot into the committee has been made ahead of the Rajasthan Assembly elections, with the intention of easing the tensions between him and the Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Ashok Gehlot.
Since the Congress assumed power in Rajasthan in 2018, Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot have been engaged in a struggle for influence within the party. In 2020, Sachin Pilot led a rebellion against the Gehlot-led administration, leading to his removal from the position of Deputy Chief Minister. However, in July of this year, Sachin Pilot revealed that he had chosen to reconcile his differences with Ashok Gehlot, aiming to present a unified front in preparation for the Rajasthan elections, following advice from Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge.
