Master blaster Sachin Tendulkar started his international cricket career in 1989 against Pakistan at the age of 16. He faced Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis in his very first match and was able to score just 15 runs in the first innings. Sachin revealed after 31 years that the advice given to him by Ravi Shastri changed his life when he was disappointed after that innings. He felt like after the first innings, he is not fit to play at this level. Sachin shared his experience on Sky Sports with former England captain Nasir Hussain. He said, 'I was not aware of anything in the first place and I have to accept this. Wasim and Waqar were bowling at a very fast pace and they were bowling short pitched balls. Every single short ball was intimidating. I had not experienced such a thing before, so my first foreign tour was not good at all.'

There were tears coming out after the first innings: Sachin said, "I was getting beat by his pace and bounce and I got out after scoring 15 runs. I was feeling quite embarrassed when I was returning to the dressing room. I was wondering what I did last, why did I play this way and when I reached the dressing room, I went straight to the bathroom. Tears were coming out of my eyes. I was feeling like this place is not for me. I was questioning myself. Looks like this is going to be the first and last tour. I felt that I do not deserve to play at this level. I was very disappointed and felt lost." He said, "then senior player Ravi Shastri came and asked me what happened, I told him that I had beaten the pace. On this Ravi Shastri said, do not worry this happens to many people. You just go and try to spend half an hour in the field, after that you will get used to their speed and everything will be fine."
