With the seventh and final phase of Lok Sabha elections 2019 over, BJP's Bhopal candidate Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur has 'apologised' for her 'words' during election campaigns and announced that she would go on a two-day 'Maun'. In a tweet on Monday morning, Thakur said that she will return to public life after about three days.

Thakur, an accused in the 2008 Malegaon blast case, was nominated by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from Bhopal constituency in Madhya Pradesh. During her high Octane election campaign against Congress heavyweight Digvijaya Singh, Thakur had triggered a massive controversy when she said that Nathuram Godse, the assassin of Mahatma Gandhi was a 'Deshbhakt', a patriot.

After the electoral process, the time is now for contemplation. In the meantime, I am sorry if all the Patriots have been offended by my words. I will be observing silence for 21 Prahar (about three days) as Prayashchit (punishment) under the dignity of public life. Hari: om (sic)," Thakur said in a tweet.

The nomination of Thakur, who is currently out on bail in the Malegaon blast case was criticised by the opposition parties. The BJP leadership, including PM Narendra Modi and party chief Amit Shah, however, supported Thakur's nomination saying that her candidature was a 'Satyagraha' against Singh, an individual who 'coined' the tern Hindu terror.

Shortly after being nominated, Thakur stirred a massive row when she said that Maharashtra ATS chief Hemant Karkare was killed because of her 'curse'.
