COIMBATORE: The Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) match held between Chepauk Super Gillies and Salem Spartans on Tuesday witnessed an extraordinary event when the captain of the Spartans, Abhishek Tanwar, conceded a total of 18 runs on the final delivery of the innings. It was the last over of the innings, with the scoreboard showing 19.5 overs, when Tanwar bowled a no-ball, resulting in an additional run for the opposition. The following delivery was powerfully struck for a six by R Sanjay Yadav over deep midwicket, but it was revealed that Abhishek had once again overstepped the bowling crease!

Sanjay managed to take two runs on the subsequent delivery, but again, extras added to his team's total due to another no-ball from Tanwar, making it a total of 11 runs without a legitimate delivery being bowled. Tanwar's next delivery was a wide, further increasing the tally to 12 runs without a legal delivery.

Finally, Tanwar delivered a yorker-length delivery, which was deemed legal. However, Sanjay responded by hitting another six over the deep-midwicket region, resulting in 18 runs scored in a single delivery! The skipper conceded a staggering 26 runs in the final over, leading to Chepauk Super Gillies finishing at 217/5 in their 20 overs. The opening batsman, Pradosh Ranjan Paul, played a remarkable innings of 88 runs off 55 balls, including 12 fours and a six, while skipper Narayan Jagadeesan contributed 35 runs off 27 balls, comprising four boundaries and a six. Their partnership of 91 runs provided an excellent start, and Sanjay's unbeaten 31 runs off 12 balls in the death overs helped CSG achieve a formidable total.

Tanwar ended up giving away 44 runs in his four overs and claimed one wicket, resulting in an economy rate of 11.00. Akash Sumra (0/42) was another bowler who struggled, with an economy rate of 14. The extras conceded by Tanwar proved to be costly as the Spartans felt the pressure of a mounting scoreboard. They were restricted to 165/9 in their 20 overs and suffered a defeat by a margin of 52 runs. Muhammed Adnan Khan was the top scorer for the Spartans, playing a blistering unbeaten innings of 47 runs off 15 balls, which included a four and six sixes.

CSG's bowlers, Rocky Bhasker (2/13) and Baba Aparajith (2/28), stood out among the rest with their impressive performances. The TNPL season 2023 is scheduled from June 12 to July 12.
